SOME GENERAL GUIDELINES TO KEEP IN MIND:
- Please make note of street closures for each of the parades and plan to take alternate routes of travel during the time of the closures.
- Do not park illegally. Be mindful of fire hydrants, fire lanes, driveways, no parking areas, etc.
- Park in a well-lit, highly visible area. Lock your vehicle.
- When driving, watch for pedestrians.
- Make sure you and your children stay behind the barricades during the parade, and do not attempt to climb them.
- Do not run between floats or vehicles while the parade is in progress.
- Know the location where “found” children are taken. Have a meeting place in case you and your family get separated.
- For the safety of you, others, and your pets, leave the fur-children at home.
- Check the weather before you head out so you can dress yourself and your family accordingly.
- Do not throw objects at any of the parade participants.
- Keep your belongings close and protected.
- Do not drink and drive. Please plan your transportation ahead of time. It’s very simple to designate a driver or reserve a Lyft or Uber.
- Behave in a generally proper manner. It’s easy to get carried away during the Mardi Gras season, but it’s still expected that we conduct ourselves like responsible adults.
Mardi Gras is a fun time for family and friends and a deeply loved cultural tradition. The Ward 3 City Marshal’s office urges you to follow these safety guidelines, so we can all celebrate the season and be worry-free.
